Boyds, Md., (5/30/19) – Washington Spirit goalkeeper Aubrey Bledsoe was named NWSL Player of the Week, as voted on by NWSL Media, following her clean sheet performance against the Chicago Red Stars on May 26.

Bledsoe made seven saves in the game to raise her season total to 26, the best mark in the league. Her work between the posts was critical to helping the Spirit secure a 2-0 victory, their third win in a row, and longest win streak since 2016.

Chicago entered the match in first place, with the highest-scoring offense in the NWSL and a nine-game unbeaten streak at home, but failed to beat Bledsoe as the Red Stars suffered their first home loss of the season.

Milestones and awards are beginning to pile up for Bledsoe. The Spirit keeper owns the NWSL record for the most saves in a single season and was named the Westfield W-League goalkeeper of the year after leading Sydney FC to a W-League Championship in Australia last fall.

This is also the second time this season that Bledsoe has earned the Player of the Week award, having previously won the honor in match week four after a clean sheet against Reign FC on May 4.

Bledsoe’s three clean sheets so far this season are second only to Utah Royals FC’s Nicole Barnhart for the most in the NWSL. Bledsoe and Barnhart will go head to head when the Spirit host Utah this Saturday at the Maryland Soccerplex. A win for either team will grant them sole possession of first place in the NWSL.

Kickoff is set for 7:00 p.m. ET with Gate D & the Fan Zone opening at 5:30 p.m. ET for all ticket-holding fans and Gate A opening at 6:00 p.m. [TICKETS]
