MacIver and Scotland to take on Czechia in two World Cup qualifiers
Washington, D.C. (09/23/2026) – Washington Spirit goalkeeper Sandy MacIver has been called up to the Scotland Women’s National Team for next month’s World Cup qualifiers, the Scottish FA announced today. The team will face Czechia in a home and away fixture next month with a chance to advance in World Cup qualifying.
Originally from Winsford, England, MacIver has appeared in 12 international matches for the Scotland senior team, earning six clean sheets in the process. With the Spirit, MacIver has appeared in 33 total matches and tallied 15 shutouts. Since stepping into the starting role in DC this season, MacIver has already added several impressive accolades to her resume. The Scot set new Spirit club records with four consecutive regular season clean sheets as well as ten total shutouts on the year with five matches left to play. MacIver has twice been named to the NWSL’s Best XI of the Month, earning the nod as the top goalkeeper in the league for her performances in April and July.
Scotland’s October Schedule:
- vs Czechia | Friday, October 9 at 1 p.m. EDT (Stadion Arnošta Košťála, Pardubice, Czechia)
- vs Czechia | Tuesday, October 13 at 2:15 p.m. EDT (St. Mirren Park, Paisley, Scotland)
The Spirit will take the pitch at Audi Field next on Saturday, September 26 when the side hosts Angel City FC. Kicking off at 6:30 p.m. EDT, the match will be Washington’s annual CVS Health Day. Tickets are available at WashingtonSpirit.com/tickets.
