Washington, D.C. (04/30/2024) – Washington Spirit defender Anna Heilferty will miss the remainder of the 2024 season due to a torn ACL sustained in last week’s match against the Pride, the club announced today. Heilferty will remain with the team throughout her recovery, working closely with the Spirit Performance, Medical and Innovation department and continuing her community work with Washington, D.C.’s Department of Energy and Environment (DOEE) as an ambassador to Sustainable DC.

Heilferty, a DMV local from Falls Church, is in her fourth season with the Spirit after being drafted by the club with the 19th overall pick in the 2021 NWSL Draft. Through 57 total appearances with the Spirit, Heilferty has seen over 3,000 minutes of action and played a crucial role for the 2021 team that won the NWSL Championship.

Before turning pro, Heilferty attended Boston University. In three seasons with the Terriers, Heilferty appeared in 62 matches, totaling 13 goals and 10 assists in over 4,200 minutes of playing time. Heilferty earned All-Patriot League honors in each of her three collegiate seasons, including a First Team nod in 2018.
