Washington, D.C. (01/12/2024) – The Washington Spirit has agreed to trade terms with the North Carolina Courage ahead of Friday night’s 2024 NWSL Draft, the club announced today. The Spirit will trade midfielder Ashley Sanchez to the North Carolina Courage in exchange for North Carolina’s first round pick in the 2024 NWSL Draft (no. five overall) and $250,000 in allocation money.

“Ashley is an exceptionally gifted player with an intense competitive drive,” said President of Soccer Operations/General Manager Mark Krikorian. “We are grateful for everything she brought to DC as both a player and a professional and wish her the best in this next step of her career.”

Originally from Monrovia, California, Sanchez was drafted by the Spirit with the fourth overall pick in the 2020 NWSL College Draft. With the Spirit, Sanchez tallied 17 goals and eight assists across 88 appearances (all competitions) and played a crucial role in bringing the club its first NWSL Championship in 2021.
