Metayer signs new three-year contract with 2027 option

Washington, D.C. (12/20/2023) – Washington Spirit midfielder Paige Metayer has re-signed with the team on a new three-year contract with a 2027 option, the club announced today. The new contract will take effect immediately, replacing Metayer’s current contract which was set to expire after the 2025 season.

Despite going undrafted in 2023, Metayer was a day-one starter for the Spirit. She started all but one regular season match for the team her rookie year, tallying three goals and an assist across more than 1,800 minutes of action. For her stellar performance during June play, Metayer was named the NWSL’s Rookie of the Month.

“I’m excited to be able to extend my time with the Spirit,” said Metayer. “This club is headed for great things and I look forward to contributing to its growth.”

Metayer is originally from Irvine, California and attended the University of California, Berkeley before she signed with the Spirit prior to the 2023 season. She played over 7,800 minutes across five seasons with the Golden Bears, tallying nine goals and an assist in the process. Metayer was also named to the Pac-12 Academic Honor Roll three times during her college career.

“Paige proved herself to be a immediate starter last season and is a vital part of this team’s midfield,” said President of Soccer Operations/General Manager Mark Krikorian. “Keeping her with the Spirit is important to the club’s success and we’re looking forward to her continued growth as a professional.”
