Ireland will face Northern Ireland and Hungary in Group B1 action later this month

Washington, D.C. (09/15/2023) – Washington Spirit midfielder Marissa Sheva has been called up to the Ireland Women’s National Football Team for the team’s first two Nations League group stage matches, Ireland Football announced today.

Ireland will face off against Northern Ireland at Dublin’s Aviva Stadium on Saturday September 23 before heading to Budapest to take on Hungary at Hidegkuti Nándor Stadium on Tuesday, September 26. Ireland will look to earn promotion to League A for next year’s UEFA Women’s Nations League season.

Sheva earned her first call-up to the Ireland senior national team in February, making her international debut on February 22 in a friendly against China. Playing as a forward for Ireland, Sheva appeared in all three of the country’s group stage matches at this summer’s Women’s World Cup in Australia and New Zealand, bringing her cap total to seven. Since joining the Spirit in 2022, Sheva has made 21 total appearances with the side, tallying one goal and over 800 minutes of action across all competitions.

Sheva spent time with Deportivo Alavés Gloriosas of Spain’s Segunda División Pro and Utah Royals FC of the NWSL in 2020 before joining the Spirit in 2022. Prior to her professional career, Sheva played four seasons of college soccer at Penn State, tallying 13 goals and nine assists over 92 appearances with the Nittany Lions.

The Spirit’s next home match will be on Saturday, September 30 when the team takes on the Kansas City Current. Tickets are available here. The club announced earlier this year that it would host all home matches moving forward at Audi Field in Buzzard Point, ensuring players and fans alike access to a facility befitting a professional club. Fans can secure tickets to all home matches in 2024 with a season membership.
