It’s College Cup time! The NCAA tournament is down to just four teams. The winners of the semifinals Friday will advance to the Championship on Sunday. The matches will take place in Avaya Stadium in San Jose, California and will be broadcast on ESPNU.
The first semifinal will feature University of North Carolina, where Crystal Dunn starred in college, against West Virginia University at 5 p.m. ET. UNC is making its 27th overall appearance in the College Cup but its first since 2012, marking the longest drought in program history. In contrast, WVU will be making its first ever appearance in a College Cup, but the team has experienced players to lean on in Canadian Olympic bronze medalists Kadeisha Buchanan and Ashley Lawrence.
The second semifinal will feature our hometown team Georgetown University against University of Southern California at 7:30 p.m. ET. The Georgetown Hoyas will be making their first College Cup appearance. Grace Damaska leads Georgetown’s offensive effort with 14 goals this season, with Rachel Corboz and Crystal Thomas right behind with 11 each. USC will be making their second appearance after winning it all in their first in 2007. The Trojans will look to Alex Anthony and Morgan Andrews, with ten and nine goals respectively this season, to push the team through to the Championship.
