Ngock and Cameroon will face Malawi in Sunday afternoon’s title match
Washington, D.C. (08/14/2026) – Incoming Washington Spirit midfielder Monique Ngock helped her native Cameroon advance to the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations final with a penalty shootout victory over host nation Morocco earlier this week. Ngock and the Indomitable Lionesses will face Malawi for the continental title on Sunday, August 16 at 3 p.m. EDT.
Ngock was part of Cameroon’s starting lineup for the fifth straight match at this summer’s tournament, seeing the full 120 minutes of action as the contest went scoreless through extra time. Cameroon advanced after a penalty shootout, taking the four-round tiebreaker 3-1. Sunday’s matchup with Malawi will be Cameroon’s fourth Women’s Africa Cup of Nations final in the federation’s history as the Indomitable Lionesses continue to look for their first-ever continental championship.
Also in the semifinal round, incoming Spirit midfielder Mélissa Bethi and Algeria took a disappointing 1-3 loss to Malawi but still have a chance for a podium finish at this summer’s tournament. Algeria will take on Morocco in the third-place match on Saturday, August 15 at 1 p.m. EDT.
The Spirit will take the pitch at Audi Field next on Sunday, August 23 when it takes on the Orlando Pride. Kicking off at 4 p.m. EDT, the match’s theme will be Love is Loud: Pride. Tickets are available at WashingtonSpirit.com/tickets.
