Spirit to open 2025 campaign with championship rematch against Orlando Pride

Washington, D.C. (01/06/2025) – The 2025 National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) season will kick off with the annual Challenge Cup match on Friday, March 7 and conclude with the NWSL Championship on Saturday, November 22, the league announced today.

The Washington Spirit will take on the defending champion and Shield winner Orlando Pride in the 2025 NWSL Challenge Cup, a rematch of the 2024 NWSL Championship. Taking place at Orlando’s Inter&Co Stadium, the match will mark the Spirit’s second appearance in a Challenge Cup final.

One week after the Challenge Cup, the 2025 regular season will begin on Friday, March 14. Just as in 2024, all 14 clubs will play a balanced 26-match schedule, hosting and visiting each team in the league once. The NWSL will continue to break from regular season play during international competition windows as well to allow players to compete for both club and country. This year’s league-wide players’ week off will run from Monday, June 23 through Sunday, June 29.

The NWSL will announce its full 2025 regular season schedule and broadcast details at a later date. This season will be the second of the league’s historic four-year broadcast rights deals with CBS, ESPN/ABC, Prime Video and Scripps and feature over 120 nationally broadcast matches.

The Spirit will take the field in 2025 looking to build on this year’s second place finish in the NWSL. Behind stellar performances from the side’s star players and rookie phenoms, the Spirit set new single season club marks on the pitch in wins (18, also a league record), points (56) and goals (51) in front of record attendances at Audi Field in 2024.
