Leesburg, VA (06/01/2022) – In association with the Washington Coalition of Women’s Professional Sports (WCWPS) and Leveling the Playing Field (LPF), the Washington Spirit will be collecting donations of new sports bras of all sizes at each of its next two home matches at Segra Field and its final regular season contest at Audi Field.

Leveling the Playing Field launched the donation drive to address the issue of inequality in sport participation. Girls drop out of sports at twice the rate of boys with the most significant decline occurring around puberty. LPF finds that access to sports bras for young girls in sports is a consistent cause for the dropout. Providing sports bras that fit correctly can make a huge difference in encouraging girls to continue playing confidently and without pain or discomfort.

Donation boxes will be set up outside fan entry gates at Segra Field in Leesburg for the June 1 and June 11 matches and Audi Field in DC for the October 1 match. Donated sports bras will remain in the DMV community and will be given to kids and adolescents in need in the region. Fans who would like to contribute, but cannot attend the game, can donate here.

About Leveling the Playing Field

Leveling the Playing Field was founded in 2013 in response to the growing inequity between those that can afford to play sports and those that cannot, and the prominent role the cost of sporting goods has played in that gap. Leveling the Playing Field’s core mission is to redistribute equipment to expand access and equity within youth sports and recreation programs in under-resourced communities. With locations in Washington, D.C., Baltimore and Philadelphia, Leveling the Playing Field has collected and redistributed over $8.3 million worth of sports equipment to over 1,250 unique schools, sports leagues and other programs serving kids in need.
