Washington, D.C., (02/02/2022) – The Washington Spirit have re-signed forward Trinity Rodman to a contract extension through the 2024 season with an option for 2025, the club announced today.

Rodman was the 2021 NWSL Rookie of the Year, Presented by Ally after being the second overall pick in last season’s draft and becoming the youngest player in league history. In her first season with the Spirit, Rodman netted seven goals and assisted on another seven including the championship-winning header by Kelley O’Hara against Chicago. In addition to her NWSL accolades, Rodman was named the 2021 Chipotle U.S. Soccer Young Female Player of the Year.

Spirit Head Coach Kris Ward on the renewal: “We’re incredibly excited to have Trin as a part of the Spirit family for at least the next three seasons. She has a truly special career ahead of her and makes us a better club on all fronts.”

“We’re excited to re-sign Trinity and continue to support her development as a player,” said Club President Ben Olsen. “She has accomplished a great deal early in her career and our focus is to provide the right environment for her to reach her potential.”

Originally from Newport Beach, California, Rodman competed in the Elite Clubs National League, winning four national championships before committing to play for the Washington State Cougars at the collegiate level. After Rodman’s freshman season was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic, she opted to go pro and enter the 2021 NWSL Draft without having played a match at the college level.
