Boyds, Md., (12/21/20) – The Washington Spirit have announced that defender Brooke Hendrix, midfielder Jaye Boissiere, and forwards Jenna Hellstrom, Meg McCool, Jessie Scarpa, and Crystal Thomas have been waived and placed on the offseason re-entry wire.

Hendrix joined the Spirit on January 4, 2020 from English team West Ham United of the FAWSL. The 5-11 defender from the University of Southern Mississippi played in five games for the Spirit in 2020, racking up 99 minutes played. In her four games during the Fall Series, Hendrix had an 86 percent pass completion rate.

Boissiere also joined the Spirit last offseason, signing on January 7, 2020 from French second division club La Havre. The Los Altos Hills, CA native was one of five players from Stanford on the 2020 roster. During the 2020 Challenge Cup and Fall Series, Boissiere made four appearances, including one start and 140 minutes played.

Hellstrom signed with the Spirit during the offseason on December 17, 2019. A member of the Canadian National Team, Hellstrom played in six games during the 2020 season and accumulated 216 minutes played.

McCool was signed just prior to the start of the 2020 Challenge Cup on June 9. The University of Virginia alum did not appear in the Challenge Cup, but recorded three appearances for 135 minutes played during the Fall Series. McCool, a forward, completed 80 percent of her tackles.

Scarpa joined the Spirit on December 17, 2019 from Swedish club Lidkoping FK. In 2020, Scarpa appeared in all four games during the Fall Series. While she only played in 46 minutes during those four games, she drew a penalty against Sky Blue just moments after coming into the game and then scored against Chicago, also moments after coming into the match.

Thomas signed with the Spirit in 2017 and made one appearance for the team prior to being waived. After being waived, Thomas played for Valur in Iceland. The Georgetown University graduate made her return to the Spirit roster in 2019 and played in 13 games, recording 665 minutes and three goals. Her most notable goal for Washington came against Orlando at Audi Field when she pressured Pride goalkeeper Ashlyn Harris into giving up the ball before scoring. In 2020, Thomas featured in four games, scoring one goal against the Chicago Red Stars during the Fall Series.

Heading into the 2021 season, the Spirit currently have 15 players under contract. Further updates to the roster can be expected in the coming weeks prior to the start of preseason on February 1.
