Boyds, MD., (11/12/20) – Washington Spirit goalkeeper Katie Lund and forward Katie McClure were selected by Racing Louisville FC in the 2020 NWSL Expansion Draft. Lund and McClure were drafted with the number five and number 10 picks, respectively.

Lund first joined the Spirit in the winter of 2020 as an undrafted player out of the University of Arkansas. Lund began her collegiate career at Texas Christian University but transferred to Arkansas for her final season.

While playing for the Razorbacks, Lund started all of the team’s 23 matches, securing 11 shutouts. She led the SEC in save percentage (0.871) and was second in the conference in goals-against-average with a mark of 0.482.

Spirit Head Coach Richie Burke said this on the pick: “Katie Lund was incredible during her time with our club and I know our goalkeeper group enjoyed her fantastic work ethic. I wish her all the very best at her new club and hope she enjoys continuing to play with her close friend Katie McClure.”

McClure was signed in the 2020 NWSL College Draft as the 23rd overall pick from the University of Kansas. During her time as a Jayhawk, McClure was selected to the All-Big 12 First Team and was a Third Team All-American. She made 25 starts, scored 17 goals, notched nine assists over 1,775 minutes of work and scored two hat-tricks in 2019.

For the Spirit, the forward made six appearances with the team, two during the 2020 NWSL Challenge Cup and four during the 2020 NWSL Fall Series, playing a total of 231 minutes.

Burke said this on the pick: “I’d like to wish Katie McClure all the very best at Racing Louisville and want to take this opportunity to thank her for her time at our club. She was an absolute joy to work with during her rookie year, and I hope her career really kicks off at her new club.”
