Boyds, Md. (9/7/2020)  The Washington Spirit has waived defender Kaiya McCullough at her request in order to pursue opportunities overseas.

The 22-year-old from UCLA was the club’s No. 32 overall pick in the 2020 NWSL Draft. McCullough did not appear in any Challenge Cup or Fall Series games this year. The former Bruin started every game she appeared in and finished her collegiate career with 76 consecutive games started. McCullough’s 92 career starts ranks tied for fifth in UCLA history.

Spirit Head Coach Richie Burke said this on the move: “I want to personally thank Kaiya for her fabulous work both on and off the field during her time with our club. She is a great young woman, with a huge personality and I’m totally supportive of her move to play more football. Our entire Technical Staff and everyone at the Spirit wish her the very best.”
