The Washington Spirit will be facing the University of Maryland in a charity match on April 5th, 2014 to benefit Headers For Hope.
Headers For Hope is a nonprofit organization established by Louise Waxler to help support the family and friends of those battling cancer. “I am delighted that we are partnering with the NWSL’s Washington Spirit in 2014,” said Louise Waxler, founder of Headers For Hope. “The ability to raise awareness about the risks of cancer to our college athletes and young soccer players is our ultimate goal. Our partnership with the Washington Spirit provides us with the opportunity to spread the word and to help make a difference in saving the lives of those we love. Headers for Hope was established in honor of every individual who has been diagnosed with cancer; every family member who has held the hand of their loved one being treated for cancer; and all friends acting as a support system to someone who has been told the news they have cancer. Unfortunately, cancer more often than not hits home. This is our opportunity to give back.”
The match against the University of Maryland kicks off at 7:00pm ET on April 5th at Maureen Hendricks Field at the Maryland SoccerPlex. Fans and supporters can purchase general admission tickets online for $10 each, in advance. Tickets will be available to purchase on site the day of game at $15 each. One hundred percent of the profits from the match will go to benefit Headers for Hope. To purchase tickets please go through the Washington Spirit online ticket portal: tickets.washingtonspirit.com.
“We are excited about the opportunity to help support Headers for Hope; a charity founded by Louise Waxler, one of our area’s great youth and professional women’s soccer icons,” said Bill Lynch, owner of the Washington Spirit. “We’ve all probably been affected in some way by cancer. Headers for Hope benefits local charities that help support cancer patients. This is a terrific opportunity for the soccer community to support a great charity and enjoy a great game.”
