Boyds, MD (February 13, 2018) – The Washington Spirit has acquired the Houston Dash’s natural fourth round pick in the 2019 NWSL College Draft in exchange for forward Tiffany Weimer.
Washington selected Weimer with the No. 20 overall pick in the NWSL Dispersal Draft on January 30. The Penn State University alum previously played for the Spirit from 2014-2015, appearing in four games. In 2016, she appeared in four games for FC Kansas City and 10 games for Swedish side Kvarnsvedens IK, contributing five goals. She signed with the Boston Breakers ahead of the 2017 NWSL season and made 17 appearances, recording one assist.
“We were delighted to select Tiffany in the Dispersal Draft and have the opportunity to bring her back to the Spirit,” said Spirit Head Coach and General Manager Jim Gabarra. “Houston approached us about the possibility of bringing Tiff to the Dash. We all agreed for a number of reasons that the opportunity in Houston made the most sense. Tiff is an amazing person who will bring everything she has to the Houston organization. We wish her the best.”
The Spirit has announced two exhibition games which will be included in the club’s 2018 NWSL preseason schedule. Washington will return to Evergreen Sportsplex in Leesburg, Va. for the second straight year on Saturday’s March 10 for a friendly against 22-time women’s college champion University of North Carolina.
