BOYDS, Md. (July 24, 2015)—The Washington Spirit (6-4-2, 20 points) are set to face off against the Chicago Red Stars (11-6-1, 22 points) on July 25th at 7:00 p.m. ET at the Maryland SoccerPlex.

“I am very proud of what all players have achieved so far and it is exciting to welcome our World Cup players back in to the team,” said head coach Mark Parsons. “The focus on improving has been superb and everyone has been competing very well. Saturday is another opportunity to get better and put on a performance that our fans can be proud of.”

On Saturday June 20th, the Washington Spirit and Chicago Red Stars faced off in a game that resulted in a four-hour delay. In the few minutes that were played, the Red Stars had a goal called offside while the Spirit scored once before  the game was cancelled altogether, due to the weather. Tomorrow both teams will look to play a full 90 minute game at the Maryland SoccerPlex with both teams having numerous World Cup players available for the game.

The Chicago Red Stars have only lost one game all season. That loss came on June 6th against the Western New York Flash. Since then, the Red Stars have been dominating the top spot in the league with forward Sofia Huerta scoring six goals on the season and Christen Press scoring four times before she departed for the World Cup.  The Red Stars have only allowed 12 goals all season and the Chicago back line will be further bolstered with the return of World Cup defender Julie Johnston.

The Washington Spirit will benefit from the return of three crucial players: Ashlyn Harris, Ali Krieger and Francisca Ordega. Dunn, who has been with the team all season and has scored eight goals, will look for midfielder Amanda Da Costa and Ordega to provide support on the attack against a very strong Chicago Red Stars backline.

Both teams feature some of the best defensive and offensive players in the league and the game this Saturday will be an intense battle for the top spot in the league.
