After playing the 2011 and 2012 season as D.C. United Women, our USL W-League team enters their second season of play under the Washington Spirit club structure, with all focus on using the W-League team to provide opportunities for top players to develop into full professionals. The W-League team is a fully amateur team, and the reigning Eastern Conference Champions after going 11-1-0 in 2012, then hosting and winning the 2012 Eastern Conference Championships. The team traveled to Ottawa, Canada for the USL W-League Championships in July of 2012, where they finished in 3rd place overall after defeating Quebec City Admiral in the 3rd place match after losing a 1-0 decision to eventual champions Ottawa Fury in the semifinal. As the Washington Spirit Reserves, the team captured the northeastern Conference Championship in 2013 before falling to the Pali Blues 3-2 in overtime in the semifinals.  Our W-League team is managed by Tim Schweitzer, 2011 United Soccer Leagues W-League Executive of the Year.
