Boyds, Md. (Jan. 27, 2014) – The Washington Spirit have signed Danish football player, Cecilie Sandvej. She has most recently played for Perth Glory FC in the Australian W-League making eleven appearances.

“Cecilie is going to bring great athletic ability, natural quality on the ball and experience. She is a very versatile player with experience playing at the back or in midfield,” said general manager and head coach Mark Parsons, of the new signing. “I am excited we have managed to bring Cecilie to the Spirit and this is another very important player that will help bring success to DC over the coming years.”

Between 2009 and 2013, Sandvej, 23, was a member of Danish Women’s Elite Division league with Brøndby IF and helped her team win three national titles. She has played in the Danish National U17, U19, U23 and senior teams. Sandvej also has experience playing in the UEFA Champions League having been part of the tournament in 2012 and 2013.

“It’s always been a dream of mine to come to the US and play one day so getting this opportunity is a huge thing for me and I can’t wait give it all I got and help the team reach their goals,” said Sandvej of the venture. “My main goal for this season is to make playoffs.”
