Bridgeview, IL- Thursday August 02, 2018: 2018 Tournament of Nations match between the women’s national teams of the United States (USA) and Brazil (BRA) at Toyota Park.

Boyds, MD (August 3, 2018) – Washington Spirit midfielder Rose Lavelle netted her third career international goal on Thursday night, helping propel the U.S. Women’s National Team to a 4-1 rout of Brazil in their 2018 Tournament of Nations finale.

The USA needed a victory by at least a two-goal margin in their third and final match of the event, and ultimately outscored Brazil by three, behind four unanswered goals. After Brazil took an early 1-0 lead, Lavelle’s 33rd minute equalizer put the momentum back in the USA’s favor, before Julie Ertz, Tobin Heath and Alex Morgan each found the net in a dominant second half.

Lavelle’s dazzling strike was set up by a feed from Lindsey Horan, who chipped the ball over to Lavelle in the center of the box, where she finished with a difficult half volley into the upper right netting.

Lavelle appeared in all three of the USA’s matches at the Tournament of Nations, earning her 9th, 10th and 11th international caps. Her 45-minute appearance on Thursday night marked her first start in international play since Sept. 19, 2017. Last night’s goal was her first with the USA since scoring against Sweden on June 8, 2017.

The 23-year-old midfielder will return to action with the Washington Spirit on Sunday night, as the club visits Seattle Reign FC for their third and final meeting of the 2018 regular season. Kickoff from UW Medicine Pitch at Memorial Stadium is set for 9 p.m. ET with a live stream available on NWSLsoccer.com and the NWSL App.
