Washington Spirit defender Estelle Johnson and goalkeeper Stephanie Labbé have been named to the NWSL Team of the Month for June 2017. This marks the second time this season that both Johnson and Labbé have made the Team of the Month.

CHICAGO (June 30, 2017) – Sky Blue FC forward Samantha Kerr once again leads the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) Team of the Month voted by the NWSL Media Association for the month of June of the 2017 NWSL season.

Kerr was named the NWSL Player of the Month for the second consecutive month and is one of six players to earn their second selection to the Team of the Month – along with Chicago Red Stars defender Casey Short, North Carolina Courage midfielder Samantha Mewis, Seattle Reign FC midfielder Jess Fishlock, Washington Spirit defender Estelle Johnson and Washington Spirit goalkeeper Stephanie Labbé.

The Courage led the way with three players voted to the Team of the Month – followed by the Spirit, Reign FC and Orlando Pride with two players and the Red Stars and Sky Blue FC with one player represented on the elite squad.

North Carolina and Orlando each won three games during June – the most in the league – with the Courage going a perfect 3-0-0 and the Pride producing a 3-1-0 record during the month.

NWSL Team of the Month – June

GK – Stephanie Labbe, Washington Spirit: Labbé made 14 saves over three appearances as the Spirit completed an undefeated June with 2-0-1 record during the month.

D – Estelle Johnson, Washington Spirit: Johnson was part of a back line that allowed just one goal in three games and turned in an exceptional all-around effort with nine tackles, 11 clearances, nine interceptions and gained possession for her team 13 times.

D – Abby Dahlkemper, North Carolina Courage: Dahlkemper and the Courage defense conceded only once in three games and made six clearances, eight interceptions and gained possession nine times in June.

D – Casey Short, Chicago Red Stars: Short and her fellow Chicago defenders posted 1.00 goals against average for the month with the U.S. international vital to that performance by gaining possession 25 times.

D – Ali Krieger, Orlando Pride: Krieger gained possession for her team 27 times during the month while she also made 18 clearances and 14 interceptions to help the Pride to a 3-1-0 record in June.

M – Marta, Orlando Pride: Marta had four goals and two assists in four games during June as she was directly involved in six of the nine goals scored in the month by the Pride.

M – Samantha Mewis, North Carolina Courage: Mewis notched two assists for the Courage while also leading her team in touches in two of three games in the month as well as winning 30 of 42 total duels (71.4 percent) in June.

M – Jess Fishlock, Seattle Reign FC: Fishlock made contributions beyond the scoreboard in June with her two-way game as she gained possession 32 times for her team and had 242 touches in four games in the month.

F – Megan Rapinoe, Seattle Reign FC: Rapinoe tallied three goals in four games – including both goals as the Reign rallied for a 2-1 victory against the Red Stars on June 28. She leads the league with seven goals on the season.

F – Samantha Kerr, Sky Blue FC: Kerr had three goals in four games for Sky Blue and recorded the assist on the fastest goal in NWSL history when she set up the goal by Raquel Rodriguez 24 seconds into a 3-1 win over the Thorns on June 17.

F – Ashley Hatch, North Carolina Courage: Hatch had a goal in each of the three games for the Courage in June – including the game-winning goal in a 1-0 victory over the Breakers on June 24.

The NWSL will return to action Saturday, July 1 with four games as the North Carolina Courage hosts Sky Blue FC at 3:30 p.m. ET in the NWSL Game of the Week on Lifetime; before the Washington Spirit travel to face the Boston Breakers at 4 p.m. ET, the Orlando Pride takes on the Chicago Red Stars at 5 p.m. ET and the Seattle Reign FC goes heads up with the Portland Thorns FC at 10:30 p.m. ET.

On Sunday, July 2, FC Kansas City and the Houston Dash will square off at 8 p.m. ET in the final match of a busy Week 11 in the NWSL.
