The Washington Spirit notched their first franchise win in official National Women’s Soccer League action Thursday night defeating Seattle Reign FC 4-2 in front of 1,011 fans at Starfire Sports Complex Stadium just outside of Seattle, Wash.
Thursday’s 10 p.m. matchup with the Seattle Reign at Starfire Stadium marks the first of a three-game road trip, which will also take the club through Portland on Sunday and then to Boston next weekend.
The Washington Spirit Reserves failed to hold a one-goal lead to the visiting New York Magic, surrendering a pair of goals in final 15 minutes to fall 2-1on a stormy evening at the Maryland SoccerPlex. Magic forward Brittany Pfaff knocked home the game winner in the 86th minute to doom the Washington W-League side.
The Washington Spirit closed out their four game home stand with their third 1-1 draw in their first five games in the National Women’s Soccer League. The 4,027 fans filling Maryland SoccerPlex stadium keeps the team attendance average above 4,204 with four out of 11 home games played so far.
