Washington, D.C. (04/14/2023) – The Washington Spirit is proud to announce Shameeka Quallo, Esq. as Vice President & General Counsel. Working closely with Spirit Majority Owner Michele Kang and serving as a key member of the executive leadership team, Quallo will counsel and advise across all areas of the organization, including overseeing human resources.

“Shameeka is the perfect person to join us as legal counsel as we continue to professionalize and transform the club,” said Club Majority Owner Michele Kang. “She brings a wealth of experience in her legal and diversity, equity and inclusion expertise, particularly in sports. This will be invaluable as we continue toward our mission of making this club one of the best sports franchises in the world. We are committed to building and doing things differently, and Shameeka will be a part of spearheading this direction.”

Prior to joining the Spirit, Quallo served as Associate General Counsel and Senior Director of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) with the Chicago Cubs of Major League Baseball. In this role, Quallo led negotiations for all sponsorship deals, managed litigation and handled contractual and employee matters, while helping the organization mitigate risk. In addition to her legal responsibilities, Quallo was instrumental in the creation and implementation of the Cubs’ DEI strategy to amplify diversity and inclusion both internally and externally.

“I am incredibly honored to join the Spirit during such a pivotal moment, as the club continues to transform,” said Quallo. “When Michele shares her vision and says she is committed to making this club one of the best in the world, you believe her. I’m excited to be a part of it and I look forward to joining these innovative leaders to help shape the organization and build a solid foundation and future for this club.”

Prior to her tenure with the Cubs, Quallo served in a similar role in motorsports, where she was Associate General Counsel and Senior Director of Multicultural Affairs at International Speedway Corporation. There, she was instrumental in handling legal affairs while leading DEI efforts designed to increase diversity in the front office and at the racetrack. She also has experience as Associate Counsel for the Ladies Professional Golf Association and as an auditor with the National Futures Association. Quallo’s community outreach extends beyond the organizational level. She serves as Vice-chair of the Board of USA Weightlifting, is a council member of the James R. Jordan Boys & Girls Club and formerly served as Board Chair of Junior Achievement of Volusia County.
