NOTE: This release has been updated to reflect the removal of Kelley O’Hara from the September USWNT roster due to a hip injury. O’Hara was announced to be on the initial roster on August 22.

The Washington Spirit will be well-represented on the pitch when the USWNT comes to DC.

Washington, D.C. (08/22/2022) – The Washington Spirit will send five players to compete with the U.S. Women’s National Team in next month’s friendlies against Nigeria, U.S. Soccer announced today.

Making the call-up list from the Spirit are forward Ashley Hatch, goalkeeper Aubrey Kingsbury, forward Trinity Rodman, midfielder Ashley Sanchez and midfielder Andi Sullivan. With five of the 23 latest call-ups coming from the defending NWSL champions, Spirit players will make up over 20% of the USWNT when it competes in Kansas City and Washington, D.C. on September 3 and 6, respectively. Hatch has the most goals scored for the USWNT out of the bunch, with four goals in 11 appearances while Sullivan leads the group in appearances for the USWNT, clocking in at 32 international contests. Kingsbury will look to maintain her spotless record as she earned a clean sheet in her sole appearance for the USWNT on April 12 against Uzbekistan.

Of the seven Spirit players that competed with the national team during July’s Concacaf Women’s Championship in Mexico, defenders Kelley O’Hara and Emily Sonnett are the only ones not getting the nod for next month as they continue to recover from a hip injury and a foot injury, respectively.

The USWNT will take on Nigeria in two international friendly competitions next month beginning with a match at the Kansas City Current’s temporary home in Children’s Mercy Park on Saturday, September 3. Following the Labor Day weekend matchup, both sides will head to the nation’s capital for a Tuesday, September 6 match at Audi Field. The latter will be the USWNT’s first-ever contest at the Buzzard Point venue, which opened in 2018.

Fans can secure their tickets to the Spirit’s final three home matches of the regular season at Audi Field with the new season ticket megapack. Available here, the megapack provides fans with the full benefits of a season ticket member for the defending champs’ final home matches of 2022.
