Leesburg, VA., (07/12/21) – Washington Spirit Technical Staff Coach Carrie Kveton has left the club to become the Head of Player Development at FC Nordsjælland in Denmark.
Kveton joined the Spirit in 2020, just prior to the start of the Fall Series. Kveton has over eight years of top-flight coaching experience and holds a UEFA Pro License. Prior to joining the Spirit, she was an Assistant Coach for OL Reign during the 2020 NWSL Challenge Cup. Prior to the NWSL, Kveton spent over seven years in a coaching role at Fortuna Hjørring, one of the most decorated teams in the Danish Elitedivisionen, with 11 titles and nine Danish Cups. Kveton began at Hjørring as an Assistant Coach before being named Co-Head Coach in 2014, then taking the lead as Head Coach from 2018 to 2019. During her time at the club, Hjørring won three league titles and two Danish Cups.
Spirit Head Coach Richie Burke had this to say about Kveton: “It’s been an absolute pleasure having Carrie as a part of our technical staff throughout this past year. I completely understand her wishes to return to Denmark and support her 100 percent, but she will be missed. I know our players will be very sad to see her go.”
Burke continued: “Everyone at the Spirit wishes her the very best of luck as she returns to Europe and we all thank her from the bottom of our hearts for her work during this past year. Tusind tak, Carrie.”
Kveton had this to say on the move: “I’m so incredibly grateful to the owners and Richie for giving me the opportunity to be a part of this organization. Thank you to all the staff and supporters around the club. My experience has been unforgettable. This is an incredibly talented team that has the potential to achieve great things this year, as reflected in [Saturday] night’s game – what a way to finish.”
“The players have been unbelievable – both on and off the pitch. I will miss every one of them – their personalities, character, kindness and big hearts. I want to wish the team and organization the best of luck and I will be their biggest fan in Denmark.”
Kveton’s additional experience includes coaching in the UEFA Women’s Champions League, where she reached the quarterfinals once, the round of 16 four times and the round of 32 three times. Kveton has also coached for US Soccer at the youth level, as she was an Assistant Coach for the United States U18 National Team at the Tri-Continental Tournament in Florida in January 2020 and also joined the US U19 National Team at the La Manga Tournament in Spain in February 2020.
