Leesburg, VA., (05/25/21) – U.S. Women’s National Team Head Coach Vlatko Andonovski has named Spirit midfielder Andi Sullivan and defenders Kelley O’Hara and Emily Sonnett to the roster for the team’s upcoming Summer Series from June 10-16.
The USWNT will face Portugal, Nigeria and Jamaica in the final three games before Andonovski names the 18-player Olympic Roster. The US will open the Summer Series against Portugal on June 10 in Houston, TX (8:30 p.m. ET/7:30 CT on FoxSports1), their ninth all-time meeting between the two sides. Next up for the US will be the third all-time meeting with Jamaica on June 13 in Houston (10 p.m. ET/9 p.m. CT on FoxSports1). Finally, the USWNT will close out the Summer Series with a matchup with Nigeria on June 16 in Austin, TX (9 p.m. ET/8 p.m. CT on ESPN2), their first meeting outside of a world championship.
O’Hara, who has started both matches for the Spirit this season, has been an active participant on the national side in 2021, starting four games and playing 283 minutes. The veteran fullback is aiming to make her third Olympic roster after appearing for the US at the 2012 London and 2016 Rio Olympics.
Sonnett, who has played 180 minutes for the Spirit through the first two games of the season, has also been called into multiple national team camps in recent months. So far in 2021, Sonnett has appeared in five matches for the US, starting in two of those and recording 266 minutes of action. After being named an alternate for the 2016 Rio Olympics, Sonnett is hoping to make her Olympic debut in Tokyo.
Sullivan, who has played every minute of action for the Spirit so far through two games, was a late addition to the roster prior to the USWNT’s matches vs. France and Sweden in April. She has yet to make an appearance for the USWNT in 2021 after coming off a knee injury at the end of 2020. Sullivan has 16 total caps for the national team and is looking to make her first major tournament roster.
