Boyds, Md., (12/18/20) – The Washington Spirit have re-signed goalkeeper Devon Kerr to a new one-year contract with a team option for a second year. Kerr will join Aubrey Bledsoe as the goalkeepers under contract for 2021.

Spirit Head Coach Richie Burke had this to say about the contract extension: “After a strange season and a first year with our club that brought few opportunities to play in active matches, I’m looking forward to seeing Devon push on this year with renewed vigor and positivity. She worked incredibly hard last season, spending lots of time in the gym and in extra sessions, so I’m hoping the additional work we assigned during the off-season will have worked to her benefit. Re-signing Devon and giving her a platform to move her career along was a no-brainer for us. I’m looking forward to welcoming her back into camp and ready for the challenge of the new season.”

Kerr signed with the Spirit on March 9, 2020 from French club FC Mertz. Prior to FC Merz, she was a member of the Houston Dash. While Kerr has yet to see playing time in a competitive match for the Spirit, she did feature in both of the Spirit’s closed-door matches to end 2020. Internationally, Kerr represented the Canadian National Team at the U-17 level in 2014. Since then, she has appeared for the United States National Team at the U19, U20, and U23 levels.

The Ohio State product played a total of 63 matches for the Buckeyes, starting in 45. She was named First Team All-Big Ten and Big Ten Goalkeeper of the year in 2018, Big Ten-All Tournament Team in 2017 and 2018, and to the All-Freshman Team in 2015.

Spirit CEO and Director of Sporting Operations Larry Best had this to say on the re-signing: “We welcome Devon back and look forward to watching her progress with her continued development track.  As a dedicated goalkeeper, Devon strives to be the best she can be and we know she will be up for the challenge for her second year with the Spirit.”
