HERRIMAN, UT – JUNE 27: Tegan McGrady #9 of Washington Spirit plays for the ball during a game between Washington Spirit and Chicago Red Stars at Zions Bank Stadium on June 27, 2020 in Herriman, Utah.

Tegan McGrady has been cleared to return to play following an evaluation for a potentially dislocated jaw after a collision with a Portland Thorns player at the conclusion of the Spirit’s match last night. McGrady is in good spirits and has since returned to the NWSL bubble.

Players, officials or staff leaving the protective environment for necessary medical care has been carefully planned for and is envisioned in the NWSL Tournament Protocols where the only exception is ‘in the case of a medical emergency.’

McGrady wore personal protective equipment, was only in contact with medical providers, all of whom also wore PPE, and was discharged shortly after arrival. Her injury will continue to be monitored and additional precautionary COVID-19 testing will be conducted in addition to her planned, pre-match test.
