Boyds, Md. (10/01/20) – The Washington Spirit will face Sky Blue FC in their last game of the 2020 NWSL Fall Series on Saturday, October 3, at 12:30 pm ET, which will be broadcast live on Twitch.
We broke down some of the important stats you’ll want to know ahead of the Spirit’s last Fall Series game on Saturday.
100% – Tackles Won by Dorian Bailey
Dorian Bailey has played as both a defender and a midfielder for the Spirit and has played all 270 minutes of the Fall Series. Between the three games, Bailey has had a perfect record in tackles, as she has won 100% of the tackles she’s attempted (5/5). Not only that, but Bailey has also had four interceptions, three clearances, one block, as well as a 60% success rate in duels won (9 out of 15). Additionally, the 23-year-old has an 87.8% successful passing rate.
6 – Number of Key Passes by Ashley Sanchez
With six, forward Ashley Sanchez leads the Washington Spirit in key passes and chances created so far in the Fall Series. Sanchez is responsible for 25% of all key passes made by the Spirit (24). Additionally, the Spirit’s rookie has a 100% success rate when it comes to long passes and has the third-highest number of shots on goal, with five. Sanchez has continued to prove why she was awarded the ‘Future Legend’ award at the 2020 NWSL Challenge Cup.
4 – Number of Late Goals Scored
In the three Fall Series games the Spirit have played, they have scored a total of four goals, all of which have come after the 70th minute. Defender Paige Nielsen scored the first goal from the penalty spot in the 89th minute against Sky Blue. The second and third game came in the Spirit’s first match against Chicago, one by midfielder Bayley Feist in the 71st minute (the earliest goal thus far) and the other by forward Jessie Scarpa in the 90+3 minute. The fourth and final goal scored came from forward Crystal Thomas in the 88th minute in Washington’s previous match against Chicago last weekend.
4 – Number of Points Earned From a Losing Position
As mentioned above, the Spirit scoring during the Fall Series tends to happen late in the game. But, those late goals have saved the Spirit four points, as they have been able to come back from a losing position in two of their three fixtures. The Spirit earned three points from a losing position after fighting back from down 1-0 at halftime to win 2-1 against the Chicago Red Stars at SEGRA Field on September 12. The Spirit followed that performance with another comeback against Chicago at SeatGeek Stadium, earning one point in a 1-1 draw after falling behind 1-0.
