Boyds, Md., (7/10/20) – The Washington Spirit will face the Houston Dash in their last match of the preliminary round on Sunday, July 12, where the Spirit will be looking to get their second win and move higher up the standings before the start of the Quarterfinals next week.

We broke down some of the important stats to keep in mind ahead of the team’s last match prior to the knockout stage of the tournament.

88.9% – Successful Tackle Rate by Andi Sullivan

The Washington Spirit midfielder and captain Andi Sullivan has had an 88.9% successful tackle rate so far in the tournament. The 25-year-old has been involved in nine tackles against her opponents and has won eight of them. The captain has been vital not only in the Spirit’s defensive side, but also in the attack, having a 76.7% successful passing rate, with 70.6% being in the attacking half of the field.

77.3% – Successful Pass Rate by the Spirit

The Spirit have the third-highest successful passes rate by any team with 77.3%, only behind the North Carolina Courage and Sky Blue FC. The Spirit have successfully completed 904 out of the 1,169 passes they have attempted in the three games they played, while the Dash have a 72.7% successful pass rate, completing 782 of the 1,076 passes they have attempted.

40 – Number of Total Shots Taken by the Spirit and the Dash

In the first three games played by the Spirit and the Dash in the 2020 NWSL Challenge Cup, both teams have taken a combined total of 40 shots (excluding blocked shots). Out of those 40 shots, 23 were taken by the Spirit and 17 were taken by the Dash. Both the Spirit and the Dash have the second and third highest percentage of shots on target, with the Spirit at 52.17% (12 of 23) and the Dash at 52.9% (9 of 17).

2 – Number of Draws Against Each Other in 2019

During the 2019 season, the Washington Spirit and the Houston Dash faced each other three times, with two finishing in 0-0 draws and one in a 2-1 win for the Dash. Between the three matches, only three goals were scored among the two teams, with the Spirit scoring just one. Those results make the Dash the team whom the Spirit had the hardest time scoring against last season.
