Houston, TX., (1/31/20) – Washington Spirit midfielders Rose Lavelle and Andi Sullivan were both a part of the United States Women’s National Team’s Starting XI as they blew by Panama by a score of 8-0 Friday night at BBVA Stadium in Houston Texas.
Lavelle took up her usual spot on the right side of a midfield three, playing a pivotal part in the USWNT attack with five total shots and a 92% pass accuracy. Lavelle found the back of the net goal in the 21st minute after Lynn Williams dribbled the Costa Rican goalkeeper out of position, feeding the ball to Lavelle who scored on an empty net. The goal was Lavelle’s 11th in 40 career appearances for the USWNT.
Sullivan made her 16th international appearance tonight, and her first-ever Olympic Qualifying appearance. Sullivan featured in the middle of the USWNT midfield and displayed her utility by creating at the offensive end and winning the ball back defensively. Sullivan completed 36 of her 37 pass attempts, while also contributing two steals.
With the win, the USWNT secured a spot in the CONCACAF Olympic Qualifying Semifinals. The US will wrap up their Olympic Qualifiers on Monday, February 3 as they face Costa Rica.
