Edinburg, TX., (1/29/20) – Washington Spirit and Jamaican National Team forward Cheyna Matthews earned a start in Jamaica’s first Olympic Qualifying match against Mexico at H-E-B Stadium in Edinburg, Texas. The Reggae Girlz fell to La Tri 1-0.

Matthews started the game on the right side of a Jamaican front two also featuring forward Khadija Shaw. Matthews made a number of runs into the opposition penalty area but was unable to convert the chances. The forward exited the game in the 66th minute after being subbed off for Tiffany Cameron.

Matthews and the Reggae Girlz earned their spot in the Olympic Qualifying Tournament after sweeping their way through the preliminary qualifying stage last October, winning all four of their games by a margin of seven goals or more.

The Reggae Girlz will take on Canada on Saturday, February 1 before closing out group play against St. Kitts and Nevis on Tuesday, February 4.
