SYDNEY, (12/31/19) – Washington Spirit defender Sam Staab has been named to the W-League Team of the Week for matchweek  7. This is Staab’s third Team of the Week in just six games.

Staab has given Western Sydney a rock as she drives the menacing Wanderers backline every week. In Thursday’s 4-0 hammering of Canberra, Staab was again almost faultless in leading the Wanderers from the back.

Staab thoroughly controlled the game, making 77 touches to go along with a team-leading 57 passes. Although only 22, Staab organizes the Red and Black with the authority of a grizzled veteran and defends with poise.

Staab and the Wanderers have had a near-perfect start to their W-League campaign, sitting at 5-1-0 after six games. Western Sydney is top of the table as their impressive +13 goal difference gives them the edge over Melbourne City. Western Sydney will be off in matchweek eight, but will be taking on the Brisbane Roar on Sunday, January 12 at 12 am ET for their first game of 2020.
