Sam Staab named to second consecutive W-League Team of the Week

SYDNEY, (11/25/19) – Washington Spirit defender Sam Staab has been named to her second consecutive Team of the Week for round two of the Australian W-League.

Staab joined the Western Sydney Wanderers in October and is quickly becoming one of the best defenders in the competition on the back of consecutive stellar performances to start the 2019/20 Westfield W-League campaign.

Wanderers ‘keeper Abby Smith could have spent most of Western Sydney’s game against the Jets sitting down with a cup of tea, largely due to the totally dominant display of Staab in the center of defense.

Staab made 68 passes at 88.2% accuracy, won eight out of 12 duels and made six clearances in another totally composed and commanding performance.

Western Sydney took all three points in their second match of the year, beating Newcastle Jets 1-0. The Wanderers are currently second on the W-League ladder with six points, behind Sydney FC on goal difference.
