SYDNEY, (11/19/19) – Washington Spirit and Western Sydney Wanderers defender Sam Staab was named to the Team of the Week for round one of the Australian W-League.

Staab, who signed for Western Sydney in October, was quick to make her name known in the W-League, as she earned the award after her first-ever start in Australia.

Staab ran the Wanderers’ show against Adelaide United from the central defense on Thursday night during Western Sydney’s opening round as she made 105 total passes – 40 more than any other player on the field – at an accuracy of 88.8%.

In addition to her impressive passing display, Staab won two out of her three duels, drew two fouls and made two clearances in a dominant display in the Western Sydney backline.

Western Sydney came out on top in their 2019 debut match, besting Adelaide 2-1. The Wanderers are currently third on the W-League ladder, behind Sydney FC and Canberra United on goal difference.
