Loughborough, England, (8/28/19) – The United States Under-23 Women’s National Team kicked off their campaign in the 2019 Nordic Tournament by handing the Norway U23s their first loss in over a year. 

Both Spirit representatives in the squad, midfielder Jordan DiBiasi and defender Sam Staab, earned spots in the starting XI as the U.S. defeated Norway 2-0 at Loughborough University in Loughborough, England. Both Staab and DiBiasi played a full 90 minutes. 

DiBiasi was able to find the back of the net, opened the scoring in favor of the U.S. in the 20th minute, while Portland Thorns forward Simone Charley netted one in the 86th minute, sealing the victory for the US.

Staab was part of a United States defense that held Norway scoreless, earning the first clean-sheet of the tournament. 

The U.S. will continue its Nordic Tournament title defense against England on Friday, August 30.
