Orlando, FL – Saturday July 06, 2019: 2019 NWSL regular season home game between the Orlando Pride and the Washington Spirit at Exploria Stadium

Just three days after a rainy draw against the Royals, the Spirit will look to get their victory at Audi Field as they take on the Orlando Pride Saturday, August 24.

Both teams are eager for three points as the Spirit are in 7th place and the Pride are right on their heels in 8th with seven games left in the regular season. In their last meeting, the Pride defeated the Spirit 4-3 at Exploria Stadium in a game that produced 13 total shots on target. 

The season debut at Audi Field is expected to gather over 16,500 fans as Washington will look to ignite a late-season charge into the top four. 

The Opposition

Fresh off of a 2-1 win over the 2nd place Chicago Red Stars, the Pride hope to continue their success, as have 14 points to make up behind Utah in fourth place. Orlando will be without Alanna Kennedy who was given a red card in extra time of their last match.

Forward Chioma Ubogagu has been a force for the Pride this season totaling 4 goals and 2 assists, including the goal to clinch the victory over Chicago on August 21. 

The Pride will also get back forward Marta, the record holder for most World Cup goals, after her two-game suspension she received on August 10. The 32-year-old Brazil native has scored 4 goals for the Pride this season, two of which were scored against the Spirit.

The Spirit 

With only four points earned in the last eight matches, Washington aims to return to their early-season dominance. 

Although the Spirit’s last match resulted ended in a draw, the Spirit displayed strong attacking characteristics as they produced 18 shots Wednesday night. In addition, they held a volatile Royals offense off the scoresheet.

Forward Cheyna Matthews was instrumental in the Spirit’s last match against Orlando, as she contributed one goal and one assist. 

Saturday’s kickoff in Washington, D.C. is set for 7:30 p.m., with gates at Audi Field opening at 6:30 p.m. ET. Spirit fans can catch the action on NBC Sports Washington and Monumental Sports Network.
