Boyds, Md., (6/9/19) – Washington Spirit midfielder Chloe Logarzo earned a place in Australia’s starting lineup in the opening game of Group C the Women’s World Cup in Valenciennes, France. Playing on the left wing of The Matildas’ midfield, Logarzo played the first 61 minutes of the match and had one scoring chance as her team fell to Italy, 2-1.

In the 39th minute, with Australia holding a 1-0 lead, Logarzo received a cross at the top of the six-yard box. With no defenders tightly marking her, she was able to place a clean header on goal, but the shot was parried by Italy goalkeeper Laura Giuliani.

Logarzo was replaced by forward Lisa de Vanna in the 61st minute with the game tied at 1-1. Italy would go on to steal all three points with a late winner in stoppage time. Amy Harrison was available off the bench but was an unused sub after 90 minutes.

Australia will continue Group C action on June 13 at noon ET when it takes on Brazil. The game will be televised nationally on FOX.
