Boyds, Md., (5/31/2019) Four Washington Spirit players were named to the May 2019 NWSL Team of the Month. The NWSL Team of the Month is a monthly award given to the best individual players at every position, as voted on by the NWSL Media Association.

The four Spirit players selected this for this month’s team are forward Ashley Hatch, defender Sam Staab, midfielder Jordan DiBiasi, and goalkeeper Aubrey Bledsoe.

Hatch has two goals in her last two games and owns an impressive 79.2% pass completion rate. This is her second Team of the Month award, she also won in June of 2017 while with the North Carolina Courage.

This will be rookie Staab’s first Team of the Month award. She has lived up to her status as the fourth overall draft pick this season, with one goal and a league-high 100% clear success rate. Staab made an incredible slide-tackle play against the Red Stars, blocking a dangerous shot on target.

This will also be rookie DiBiasi’s first Team of the Month award. Like Staab, she has also lived up to her billing as an early first-round pick. The number three pick of the 2019 NWSL draft has two notched two goals and picked up a Goal of the Week award earlier this month for her Olimpico goal against Portland Thorns FC.

Bledsoe currently leads the league in saves with 26 by a wide margin, beating out Sky Blue FC keeper Kailen Sheridan, who has 19. Bledsoe is second in the league in clean sheets with three. She was also named to the Team of the Month back in April of 2018 with the Spirit.

The four players selected from the Spirit matches a team record set in April of 2018, as well as tying a league record for the most players from one team in any given month since the creation of the award in 2017.

The Spirit will be in action this weekend as they take on Utah Royals FC at the Maryland SoccerPlex in a battle at the top of the NWSL. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. ET, with Gate D and the Fan Zone opening at 5:30 p.m. ET. [TICKETS]
