Boyds, Md., (5/20/19) – Saturday’s win over Portland Thorns FC was a milestone for the Washington Spirit as the team surpassed its 2018 win total just five games into the new season, but was also a big moment for defender Tori Huster, who hit a landmark of her own by playing her 10,000th minute for Washington in the NWSL regular season.
In regards to achieving this monumental milestone, Huster had this to say “I had no idea I was close to this milestone, but I’m so proud I hit 10,000 minutes with the same club. It makes me equally tired and energized thinking about it!”
Huster is the only player who has been with the Spirit since the NWSL’s inception in November of 2012. She first joined the Spirit in the 2013 NWSL Supplemental Draft in 2013 before the league’s inaugural season.
Outside of offseason loan moves to the Western Sydney Wanderers and Newcastle Jets in Australia, Huster has represented only the Washington Spirit during her professional career.
On March 31, 2018, Huster was honored with a commemorative jersey for making her 100th regular season appearance during the Spirit’s season opener against the Seattle Reign. She remains the only Spirit player to eclipse 100 games played. A replica of the jersey, which bears Huster’s name and the number 100, hangs in the Spirit’s team lounge today.
While primarily a defender, Huster has played at least once in every outfield position for the Spirit. This versatility has allowed her to score three goals in her Spirit career, as well as complete over 1,600 passes and make 101 tackles since the start of 2016. She also logged a team-high 1,907 minutes for the 2016 Spirit team that reached the NWSL Championship.
The Cincinnati, Ohio, native played her college soccer at Florida State and appeared in the 2011 College Cup. She played for the Western New York Flash in 2012 as part of the WPSL-Elite League before joining the Spirit.
