Boyds, Md. (April 25, 2019) – Spirit rookies Jordan DiBiasi, Tegan McGrady, Sam Staab, head coach Richie Burke, and goalkeeper coach Ian McCaldon made an appearance Wednesday afternoon at Robinson Secondary School in Fairfax, Virginia, to speak to the Braddock Road Elite Academy’s U9 through U19 players.

The Spirit players discussed general topics such as their pathway to the pros and answered questions regarding the daily life of a professional, the transition phase into the NWSL from college and how to remain motivated and optimistic as a footballer. Coach Burke also provided insight as he emphasized the importance of hard work and encouraged the youth players to understand and embrace their value as soccer players. In addition to the group talks, the BRYC’s players received autographs from the Spirit players.

The outreach with the DMV’s soccer community further underscores the club’s mission statement and the new direction it seeks not only regarding women’s soccer but as community influencers and role models in the District. “They are inspirational. They are accessible to kids and they love to positively impact the lives of children,” said Steve Baldwin, member of the Washington Spirit Ownership Group.

To further highlight the importance of community involvement, Baldwin also stated in his official statement that one of the goals of the Spirit organization was to engage in “activities and events where our wonderful women will interact with our community. When it comes to impacting lives and being accessible they are second to none.”
