Boyds, Md. – The Washington Spirit Academy – Maryland U-14 and U-15 teams hosted Arlington Soccer Association at Baltimore Polytechnic School over the weekend, winning both games by scores of 2-1.
The day began with the Spirit Academy – Maryland U14 team taking on Arlington’s U-14 squad, with the Spirit Academy coming out victorious at the end of a close affair. Arlington went up 1-0 early in the 14th minute, but the lead was short lived as the Spirit Academy earned back a goal in the 30th minute via Ruby Shoots. Both teams tightened up defensively, with the only other goal finally coming in the 76th minute, a game-deciding strike from Hannah Jibril. In winning this game, the Washington Spirit Academy – Maryland extended their unbeaten streak to 5 games.
The Washington Spirit Academy – Maryland U15s followed up next, also taking on Girls’ DA newcomer Arlington Soccer Association. The Spirit – Maryland U15s controlled a majority of the game, thanks in large part to a brace from Dani Todd, who scored in the 26th and 77th minutes to put the Spirit up 2-0. Arlington did not go down without a fight however, pulling one goal back in the 80th minute. That score would end up being the last of the contest, as the Spirit Academy – Maryland U15s took all three points, taking their total to 12 on the season, good for second on the table.
The Washington Spirit Academy – Maryland will be back in action on October 13th, as the U-13s will be taking on the SJEB Rush U-13s. The Washington Spirit Academy – Maryland U-14s and U-15s will go against the Long Island SC Academy.
