Boyds, MD (Sept. 17, 2018) – The Washington Spirit Academy – Maryland U-18/19 and U-14 squads both earned multiple goal victories on the road against Cedar Stars Academy in weekend clashes at the Capelli Sport Complex in New Jersey.

The Spirit Academy U-18/19 squad came out firing in their first game of the 2018-2019 regular season against Cedar Stars U-18/19s on Saturday with a decisive 5-1 victory. A four-goal outburst from Leyah Hall-Robinson and one more from Taylor Carter was more than enough to secure the three points, as the defense limited the host club to a lone goal.

Hall-Robinson started the scoring off early, finishing her chance in just the 2nd minute of open play. She continued during the second half, securing three more goals after the break in the 46th, 68th, and 82nd minutes. Carter also chipped in during the second half, grabbing her goal in the 80th minute.

The Spirit Academy U-14 team also took three points in their matchup against the Cedar Stars U-14s, winning 4-2. This was the Spirit U-14s second straight win, following their 7-0 blowout win in the season opener against Long Island SC. An early brace from Hannah Jibril, as well as goals from Brooke Hunter and Ruby Shoots, locked up the victory.

Jibril got to work early in the game, scoring in the 2nd and 18th minute. A goal in the 26th from the Cedar Stars made it 2-1, but only four minutes later Hunter answered back, taking the score to 3-1. It was Hunter’s third goal in two games. Ruby Shoots netted the Spirit’s final goal on the day, scoring in the 69th minute.
