CHICAGO (June 19, 2018) – Washington Spirit goalkeeper Aubrey Bledsoe was voted the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) Player of the Week by the NWSL Media Association for Week 11 and 12 of the 2018 NWSL season.
Bledsoe, 26, recorded her third and fourth shutouts of the season leading the Spirit to back-to-back scoreless draws against Sky Blue FC on June 8 at Yurcak Field in Piscataway, NJ and Seattle Reign FC on June 16 at the Maryland SoccerPlex in Boyds, Md.
The Cincinnati, Ohio native made several great saves including one that came in the 45th minute when she came off her line to deny a point-blank attempt by Sky Blue FC forward Katie Johnson. Bledsoe came up big again in the 58th minute going down to her left to deny a low shot from forward Shea Groom as well as two late shots in the 88th and 89th minutes. (Watch highlights)
The NWSL saves leader recorded another impressive performance this time against Seattle, saving six shots on target while facing 17 total shots. She recorded several immense saves in the second half including denying a penalty kick from Reign FC forward Megan Rapinoe in the 52nd minute. (Watch highlights)
Bledsoe played all 180 minutes of both games and finished with 13 saves on 37 shots by Sky Blue FC and Reign FC, according to Opta.
It is the first time Bledsoe has been honored as the NWSL Player of the Week and the 14th time a member of the Spirit has won the award.
The Washington Spirit will return to action Saturday, June 23 at 7 p.m. ET against the Orlando Pride in the NWSL Game of the Week on ESPNEWS at the Maryland SoccerPlex in Boyds, Md.
