Boyds, MD (April 22, 2018) – Washington Spirit midfielders Estefanía Banini (ARG) and Yanara Aedo (CHI) completed the 2018 Copa América Femenina on Sunday, as their national teams faced off during the last match day of the Final Round.

With a 4-0 shutout victory over Argentina, Aedo and host nation Chile captured second place overall in the Copa América Femenina, clinching a berth in the 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup and a spot in the Olympic CAF–CONMEBOL play-off.

Banini and Argentina placed third overall in the 10-team tournament, securing a spot in the World Cup CONCACAF–CONMEBOL play-off and the 2019 Pan American Games.

Aedo and Banini each played the full 90 minutes as they went head-to-head in Sunday’s finale. Both Spirit players finished tied for seventh among all goal scorers in the tournament, each finding the back of the net three times.

With the 2018 Copa América Femenina now in the books, Aedo and Banini will return to the Spirit this week ahead of Saturday’s home game against the Chicago Red Stars.

Kickoff for Saturday’s match at the Maryland SoccerPlex is set for 7 p.m. ET. [TICKETS]
