Richmond, VA – March 17, 2018: The North Carolina Courage defeated the Washington Spirit 3-0 during a preseason National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) match at City Stadium.

Boyds, MD (April 7, 2018) – Washington Spirit midfielders Yanara Aedo (CHI) and Estefanía Banini (ARG) each scored goals for their respective national teams during the first round of the 2018 Copa América Femenina.

Aedo netted Chile’s first goal of the tournament in a 1-1 draw against Paraguay on Wednesday, April 4, providing an equalizer in the 60th minute, just seven minutes after Paraguay had taken the lead. Aedo scored on a one-touch strike from the center of the box, beating the goalkeeper with a shot into the bottom right corner of the net. [WATCH]

Aedo played the full 90 minutes both against Paraguay and in Chile’s 1-1 draw against Colombia in their second Group A match-up on Friday, April 6. The Chilean National Team will play their last two group games this week, starting on Tuesday against Uruguay, and wrapping up with a Thursday night match-up vs. Peru.

Banini also netted the first goal of the tournament for her country, connecting on a blistering free kick strike during the second half of Argentina’s opening game in Group B against Brazil on Thursday, April 5. With a free kick spotted just outside the top of the box, Banini sent a powerful shot into the right upper 90, equalizing for Argentina in the 54th minute. [WATCH

Despite Banini’s goal, Brazil went on to find the net twice in the second half, securing the 3-1 win. However, Argentina bounced back with a decisive 3-0 shutout of Bolivia in their second game on Saturday, April 7. Banini played the full 90 minutes in both of Argentina’s first two group games.

Argentina is back in action on Monday, April 9 with a match-up against Ecuador, kicking off at 6 p.m. ET. They will conclude Group B competition on Friday, April 13 against Venezuela.
