Boyds, MD (March 8, 2018) – Washington Spirit forward Mallory Pugh, midfielder Andi Sullivan and defender Taylor Smith helped the U.S. Women’s National Team capture its second SheBelieves Cup title in three years, culminating with a 1-0 win over England in front of 12, 351 fans at Orlando City Stadium on Wednesday night.

With both sides level at four points entering Wednesday’s match and England holding the edge on tiebreaker, England only needed a draw to come away with the SheBelieves Cup title, while the USA needed a win. The match was a defensive battle the entire way, and an England own goal in the 58th minute proved to be the difference. [Full Recap / Highlights]

Pugh earned her 33rd international cap in the win, playing the first 91 minutes before being subbed off in stoppage time. She made her 25th career start against England, putting her in second all-time in starts before the age of 20 behind only Tiffany Roberts (41). Pugh leads the USA in scoring in 2018 after tallying her first career brace against Denmark on Jan. 21 and a goal against France on March 4.

Smith started each of the USA’s first two games of the SheBelieves Cup, in which they limited their opponents, France and Germany, to a total of one goal. She notched her ninth and 10th career caps with the senior national team.

Sullivan recorded her ninth career cap for the senior U.S. squad on Sunday in the SheBelieves Cup opener, a 1-0 win over France at Red Bull Arena in New Jersey. All three Spirit players started the game, as Pugh netted the only goal of the afternoon in the 35th minute.
