Westfield W-League

Katie Stengel and the Western Sydney Wanderers pulled off an upset on Sunday as the team defeated Melbourne City FC, becoming just the second team to do so. Melbourne City had been unbeaten until the previous weekend when Canberra United toppled the defending Champions as well. City was keen to avenge its first loss and came out of the gate quickly with a goal in the third minute. However, a brace from Seattle Reign FC’s Kendall Fletcher gave the Wanderers the lead and, despite strong attempts from Melbourne to equalize, the team held on for the win. Stengel played the full match for the Wanderers. As announced earlier today, Francisca Ordega will be joining Sydney FC on loan. The team is currently in fourth place in the W-League standings after having a bye week last weekend. Ordega could play in their next match this Friday.
