BOYDS, Md. (September 4, 2015)— The Washington Spirit (8-5-6, 30 points) will wrap up their 2015 NWSL regular season campaign this Saturday at 7 p.m. against the 2015 shield winning Seattle Reign FC (12-3-4 40 points) at the Maryland SoccerPlex. The game will be a thrilling match up between two playoff bound sides.

“We have the privilege of playing at home in front of our home fans for the last time during regular season this Saturday,” said general manager and head coach Mark Parsons. “The players have great pride and passion for all our supporters and want to finish strong. We will strive to be at our best and put in a performance the Spirit Family deserves.”

The season series is currently split as the Reign won 3-1 over the Spirit in May, while more recently the Spirit triumphed 3-0 over the Reign in July. Amanda Da Costa, Christine Nairn, and Crystal Dunn comprised the Spirit’s three goal scorers in the July 18th victory. Da Costa and Nairn have it a bit of a scoring drought. Meanwhile, forward Crystal Dunn recently won her record breaking sixth Player of the Week Award in the 2015 NWSL season. Last Sunday Dunn scored two goals and provided an assist to Francisca Ordega in the Spirit’s 3-3 draw against the Portland Thorns.

With a place in the playoffs already secured, the Spirit is fighting for a home semifinal match. The Spirit must win against Seattle in order to have a chance to host a semifinal. The battle for the second is between the Spirit and the Chicago Red Stars. Chicago currently has the edge on the Spirit, and if Chicago wins its final match against the Houston Dash on Sunday, it will host the second semifinal. If the Spirit win against Seattle and Chicago loses or draws against Houston, the Spirit will move into 2nd place in the standings and host a semifinal match.

If the Spirit host a semifinal, Chicago will be coming to the DC as the third place team. If Chicago hosts a semifinal, the Spirit will travel either to Chicago or Seattle for its semifinal match. Both semis will take place on Sunday September 13th.
