BOYDS, MD. (Mar. 27, 2015) – The Washington Spirit will face the University of Virginia on Saturday March 28th at the Maryland Soccerplex. Last week, the Spirit won convincingly over UVA’s in state rivals, Virginia Tech 4-0.

UVA is a perennial power in women’s college soccer consistently finishing as one of the top teams in the country. Last year the Wahoos were led by graduating senior Morgan Brian to the final of the NCAA tournament eventually losing to Florida State 1-0. UVA was the highest scoring team in Division I women’s soccer last season and finished with a 23-3 record with all three losses coming at the hands of Florida State.

“I am looking forward to seeing our team move forward and improve on many areas from last week,” said Spirit head coach Mark Parsons. “UVA will provide a very tough test on and off the ball. Steve Swanson and his staff do an excellent job and their teams have given us he run around the last couple of years. The full focus will be on improving as a team and taking more strides towards being ready for April 10.”

Kick-off is set for 7 PM at the Maryland SoccerPlex on Field 17.

The Spirit have one final preseason match left on the calendar against the University of North Carolina on Saturday, April 4th which kicks-off at 7 PM at the Maryland Soccerplex.

Tickets for the UNC game can  be purchased general online for $10 each in advance. Tickets will be available for purchase on site the day of game, but will cost $15 each. Fans can also purchase their tickets through the Washington Spirit online ticket portal here. All of the profits from the charity match will go to benefit Headers for Hope whose mission is to support local cancer charities.

The Washington Spirit will begin its 2015 season on the road facing the Houston Dash at BBVA Compass Stadium on Friday, April 10. The Spirit will make its home debut against FC Kansas City at Maureen Hendricks Field the following weekend on Saturday, April 18 at 7 p.m.
